Chocolate letters are given as gifts from the Sint to children on the evening of the 5th December. Its one huge chunk of chocolate. Usually a child will get the first letter of their name. REALLY lucky kids may get their whole name!
What is great in terms of Fair Trade, is that Verkade (another large confectioner) is also on the Fair Trade Bandwagon, and will be producing Fair Trade letters too!
This past week has been Fair Trade week in Holland.
Supermarkets will now be stocking more Fair Trade items on their shelves.
It is great that this is becoming more mainstream.
Also for chocolate lovers Tony Chocoloney’s Slave Free chocolate, is producing Fair-Trade ethical Chocolate Letters for Sinterklaas. (Sinterklaas)
Also included is the Arabic letter “M” ;-)
We have a similar week here in the UK which is in March…
Mind you we have a few non-national smaller events gearing up toward christmas locally.
Chocolate letters? Thats pretty cool. We have fancy fairtrade chocolates in many forms, but not letters.

Sint:
oh dear HTML fail
Man, thats pretty massive. Do all the really lucky kids end up overweight then?
no way.
Chocolate does not make you fat......
Does it?
html fail....
Does chocolate make you fat??????
Noooooooooo
something weird is going on here.
I suppose the REALLY lucky kids probably do end up fat, but then dutch children do cycle around a lot, so they can work off that extra weight!
I can barely finish one myself, let alone my whole name in chocolate capital letters!
